this was my toast (as the best man) for my brothers wedding. i submitted it and some people publised bits and pieces...enjoy
Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen - Now, before I start, the church janitor has asked me to request that, for reasons of health and safety, none of you get up on top of the chairs and tables during my standing ovation.
One more thing before I get under way; in the many years I spent in the company of the groom; he has had as much of a part in developing my sense of humour as anyone. So, although I have tried to make this speech as funny as possible, please blame Kyle if it's not.
Last night, while sat in front of the computer trying to write this speech, I reviewed the high points of Kyle’s life and almost fell asleep.
But on a more serious note, Kyle has been a great brother to me. I’ve really enjoyed the times we’ve spent together, whether it be doing differential equations homework, or just talking. He’s been a good example for the most part, although there is one time where the example he set wasn’t such a good one. He was 16, I was 14. Him and Orey and I were coming back from a round of golf and Kyle decided to show off how fast his Eagle Talon was. We were up in the 100+ mph range, and we passed a green station wagon. As we passed that car, I noted that the driver looked really familiar, in fact…oh yes, he was our grade school principal and our next door neighbor.
If you know kyle, you know that he has done his fair share of painting. He doesn’t paint portraits though , because if he did take this up, every time he painted one; he’d lose a friend.
Lori, you look beautiful today; and as I’m sure Kyle has already so eloquently explained, I know that you have made a great friend of mine the happiest man alive today.
My first impression of Lori was that she was such a beautiful, witty, charming, clever, friendly and thoughtful person. And when she agreed to marry Kyle, it totally proved to me that old adage – opposites really do attract.
But really, what a great couple, they complement each other very well. Lori is ambitious, industrious, highly-motivated and loves a challenge. And Kyle is that challenge.
Traditionally, the best man should end his speech with a few sincere and kind remarks about the groom. And this would have been very difficult if Kyle hadn’t written down exactly what he wants me to say!
But I would like to wish Kyle and Lori all the best in the years of marriage that follow. Always love each other. Always respect each other and always be there for each other. May the best day of the past be the worst day of your future…. And a bride and groom are indeed best friends. For good friends, come not with time, but with trust.
, before I offer up the final toast I’d like to say that Kyle’s been a great friend to me over the twenty years I’ve known him and there are many things I admire about him. He is the most level-headed man I know and, along with his generosity and determination, there is one other thing that stands out, and that is his appreciation of quality. And today, Kyle, you’ve really surpassed yourself. You have found a lady of true quality in Lori. It’s been an honour and a privilege to be your best man today and I hope that one day I’ll be asking you to return the same honour to me. Because lets face it, I've got even less friends than you.
I'd like you all to join me in wishing Kyle and Lori the very best for their future journey together. And I hope, when they look back years from now on this, their wedding day, they realize it was the day that they loved each other the least.
